Hospice is coming in now.  They have his pain under control but he is so doped up, he has a hard time forming his words.  He arises every morning to take his pills and eat some breakfast then watches TV/sleeps all day in his chair in the living room.  Granma tries to get him to come to the table to eat dinner and sit with her in the TV room.  He can be so stubborn.  He takes his pills around 8:00 and goes to bed.  They wanted him to sit outside awhile each day but he went outside only twice while we were there…once to cut his hair and for a ride in the car to see the new airport.

Granma drives herself to the grocery store which she hates to do.  She is lonely because she has no one to talk to but the nurses that come in every other day and the next door neighbor who is doing a very nice job of watching out for them.  Maurice and Jerry go over frequently.

Susann and I got a lot of cleaning done while we were there.  Granma just doesn’t have the strength or energy to do it any longer.  She has lost her appetite and a lot of weight herself.  It is sad to see people slowly disintergrate like this but, for the living, wouldn’t it be harder to have a loved one taken suddenly with no chance to say goodbye?

Dad and I drove on down to see his mother.  She looked very snappy.  She had her hair done that day and was wearing quite the stylish outfit.  She is doing well and only seems to grow healthier.   We took Jann and her to Lake Arrowhead for lunch.  It was a fun and interesting ride.  The Santa Anna winds were blowing when we stopped at an overlook above Riverside.
